Aiken Council weighs plan to save historic Northside homes
The Aiken City Council will review a proposal to create a $150,000 fund to acquire substandard but historically significant homes on the Northside, repair them, and sell them. The plan, from City Manager Roger LeDuc, targets properties slated for demolition under the DEMO 200 program, following input from Mayor Pro-tem Lessie Price and the Aiken Historic Preservation Commission. The session also covers ARTS road priorities, including potential shifts from Hitchcock Parkway work to widening Dougherty Road and securing right of way for the Whiskey Road to Silver Bluff Road connector.
