Elusive Geminga Gamma Ray Source Spotted in Texas
In Austin two astronomers report photographing a blue star they identify as a gamma ray source named Geminga. Jules Halpern of Columbia says the extremely faint star, located optically with the 200-inch Hale telescope on Mount Palomar, is among the universe's strongest gamma ray emitters. The name Geminga, meaning does not exist, echoes earlier Milanese lore from 1981.
