End to nuclear threat urged at Trinity United Methodist Church
Aiken United Methodists urged work toward ending the nuclear threat during a seminar titled The Nuclear Presence in South Carolina at Trinity United Methodist Church near the Savannah River Plant. Dr. Albert Blackwell of Furman University linked the arms race to sin and urged prudent, bold action and public witness. Dr. John Palms of Emory University argued a just war criteria, the need for last resort, and an all-out effort to reduce arsenals, while noting civilian difficulty in seeing the weapons as reducing threat.

Tony McGeary, sophomore at Rick's Junior College Rexburg Ohio, named to Inper Mountain Collegiate Athletic Conference second team for 1983. Woman and Daughter Killed in North Augusta Wreck
A single vehicle crash on Storm Branch Road near North Augusta killed Mary E. Martin 28 and her 3-year-old daughter Tasha Nicole Martin. The wreck occurred last night as Martin lost control rounding a curb and struck several trees. Sgt. Bill Harvey reported the victims found around 11:30 p.m. Officer T. B. Ledford investigated.
