Brown estate settlement moves through Columbia accountant
A settlement plan for James Brown's estate is now with Columbia accountant Robert L. Bauknight as special administrator with limited powers. Judge Dovet A. Early has stayed discovery and postponed all other motions to Jan 23 to allow parties to refine the agreement among the Attorney General of South Carolina, five of Brown's children, grandchildren, and his fourth wife Tomi Rae Brown, with Adele Pope and Robert Buchanan remaining as trustees. The plan would allocate 50 percent to Brown's charitable trust for education, 25 percent to a woman claiming to be Brown's widow and her child, and 25 percent to some of Brown's adult children.
