Wagener man arrested in Ohio after long hunt
Robert S. Carver 28 of South Dixie Road was arrested in Dayton, Ohio, on a warrant dating to November 14, 2006, on charges of kidnapping criminal sexual conduct unlawful conduct toward a child and malicious injury to property. He had been living away since 2006, with deputies previously tracking him from South Carolina to Mexico to Texas and North Carolina.

Officer shoots pit bull to protect 74-year-old woman
North Augusta Public Safety officer Michael Strauss fired once at a pit bull that charged a 74-year-old woman defending her small dog. The dog retreated after the shot and its condition is unknown. A 21-year-old woman reported the incident, first seeing the dog near a tree by her home, then observing it sprint toward the elderly prey as she hid in her car. The officer blocked the dog’s path with his patrol vehicle, then shot when the animal again advanced bearing its teeth and biting posture.
