Aiken Robbery Suspect Fails Court Appearance

An Aiken man Trayko Ontario Marshall did not appear in court for a July armed robbery and kidnapping. A bench warrant was issued for Marshall for $95,000 bond breach as police continue the search alongside his bonding company. A juvenile and Marshall were suspected in the Northside Bait & Tackle hold up on York Street, with a gun pointed at a woman and duct tape used to restrain her. Police learned of the assault after the woman’s boyfriend reported her missing and confronted two men inside the store. Warrants were issued for both suspects. Marshall was detained later while also being sought on another warrant. The case continues, with further details on WANTED page 5A.

Arctic cold front may bring snow to Aiken County

Forecasters expect a 50 percent chance of precipitation with temperatures near 25 degrees tonight and possible snow as an Arctic front moves through Thursday night. Jim Kilmer of the National Weather Service in Columbia notes subfreezing slopes around midnight with a warming trend by early next week. Aiken County Public School District monitors conditions and prepares for winter weather.

Wilson cites safety gaps after Christmas Day air incident

Resident to don period clothing for Aiken anniversary

One Aiken resident will celebrate Aiken’s 175th anniversary by wearing period costumes each Saturday in 2010 at the Farmer’s Market. Coleen Reed, director of the Farmer’s Market, recreates a woman’s 1835 wardrobe with six outfits completed and plans for a seventh. She studied 1875 fashions revealing layered garments, durable fabrics, and frequent dyeing to black for worn dresses.
