New Aiken County Council Members Sworn In

County Jet Automotive in Augusta served 12 years on the council. The final newcomer is Charles Barton who defeated Joe Randall for District 6. Incumbent Kathy Rawls returns in District 1. Barton, Rawls and Singer will be sworn in Tuesday at 6 pm with a council meeting at 7 pm at 736 Richland Ave.

Law tightens rules for paid guardians ad litem in custody cases

Law effective Jan 15 requires guardian ad litem training and qualifications before judges appoint them for child representation in custody disputes. State Sen. Mescher notes prior lack of regulation and that attorneys may serve as guardians while state program volunteers remain separate. Other provisions include license tag rules and extending terms for Santee Cooper Promotions Commission members.
