Faith Zimmerman Becomes Top Graduating Marine Officer

Faith Zimmerman, 27, former Windsor resident and 1993 South Aiken High School graduate, completed 10 weeks of Officer Candidate School. She led the class, earning nearly every award, amid record enlistment, injuries, and dropout rates.

Traffic deaths drop in 2002 for Aiken County

Aiken County ended 2002 with 34 traffic related fatalities down from 50 in 2001. Coroner Sue Townsend noted most crashes involved alcohol or drugs and cited a public safety push like the Sober or Slammer campaign to curb drunken driving.

North Korea vows to build army based power

In its New Year message North Korea urged unity behind a military based policy to confront the United States and warned of possible invasion while stressing diplomacy from the US side. President Bush said he is confident the nuclear issue can be resolved through diplomacy. The KCNA message calls all Koreans at home and abroad to join in countering the United States.
