Ralph makes his first appearance in the Aiken Standard today on the comics page. The new panel by Wayne Stayskal replaces the long running Far Side feature which Gary Larson ended in 1994.
Four people died in New Year weekend traffic crashes in South Carolina. Donna Helfenstein, 52, Mount Pleasant, died when her car hit another on U.S. 17 in Mount Pleasant at about 2 15 a.m. Carol Ann Kennerly, 31, also in the same crash, died at about 4 51 a.m. Bridget Bean, 31, Hartsville, died in a one car crash on U S Highway 1 south of Patrick in Chesterfield County at 1 35 a.m. Vanessa Jackson Butcher, 31, Patrick, died in the same crash as Bean.

He argued with a customer and failed to return to work at a salon where the manager planned to fire him, and he called a friend in tears 90 minutes before a third shooting in Norfolk Virginia asking for money and aid.
Seron, a two job clinic employee and security guard, was shot in the hand and arm during a blaze of gunfire. He described firing back after taking cover and reciting a religious oath as the attack unfolded from 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at the clinic.
The first newborn of 1995 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers is a boy named Navarro born at 12 54 a m. He weighs seven pounds and is about 19 inches long. His mother Michelle says he slept soundly after nine months in a small space and his father plans to pick a name after birth. The Navarro family is from Williston.
