The Aiken Standard offices close Monday January 2 for New Year’s Day. Customer service by phone 7 to 10 a.m. for delivery issues at 648-2311. Office resumes normal hours Tuesday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 2006 events planned include the Aiken Triple Crown and the Battle of Aiken. Powderhouse Road residents push for a No Through Truck Zone along the street.

A 16 year old Jackson resident was found shot in the chest between 347 and 345 Hankinson Street and pronounced dead at 5 40 pm. Coroner Tim Carlton called it a homicide with a single gunshot wound and the bullet being examined by SLED. Police seek witnesses as investigation continues.

The Curiosity Shop will relocate from Laurens Street and Park Avenue to 202 Richland Ave NW at Richland and Newberry. Owners John Heaton and Amy Neeley aim to close the Laurens storefront by mid January and open the Richland Ave shop by mid February. The move places the store near interstate access for out of town customers and expands to about 2000 square feet. The Laurens site will house Atlantic Coast Properties in two storefronts and an adjoining building.
