Aiken Standard to Close for New Year Holiday

The Aiken Standard will close Monday January 2 for New Year’s Day observance. Customer service for delivery issues will operate by phone 7 10 am with a number 648 2311. Normal schedule resumes Tuesday with offices open 830 am 10530 pm.

Jackson teen fatally shot near South Hankinson Street

A 16 year old boy, Justin Brown of 10S Douse Circle Jackson, died from a gunshot wound found at 5 40 p m near 345 347 South Hankinson Street. Police and deputies searched for witnesses as investigators work to determine what happened. The body was sent to Newberry for autopsy.

Aiken County sees twelfth road death this year

Edie Graham mourns her 18 year old son killed in a two vehicle collision on S C Highway 302 near Kittings Mill Road. Witnesses say a passing GMC struck Graham s Ford truck causing it to flip and eject him. Toxicology showed no drugs or alcohol.

USC Fans Cheer as Missouri Tops USC 38–31 in Independence Bowl

Luck o the Irish pub plans shelved in downtown Aiken

Aiken native Jeff Forrester has shelved plans to open Red Hugh's Irish Pub on Richland Avenue after deeming downtown Aiken not meeting the project quality. He had a lease with developer Darren Bryant for 312 Richland Ave, where renovations were proposed including partial demolition and a balcony.

Fire chief denies claim of Norfolk Southern Lottery remark

Napier says he may have repeated words about Graniteville GVW hitting a Norfolk Southern Lottery while a federal marshal disputes any marshal presence. Brown, the U.S. marshal, says marshals were not in Graniteville and the agency had no role in the train wreck response. The Aiken County Sheriff's Office declined further comment.
