State budget axe hits local nursing centers
A state ordered eight percent Medicaid cut may force bankruptcy filings at up to 150 South Carolina nursing homes within six months, says Pepper Hill Nursing Care Facility manager Scott Jones. The cuts reduce indigent patient pay to about 92 dollars daily, with facilities unable to trim staff due to DHEC certification and Medicaid rules, risking further losses across Pepper Hill and four neighboring centers in North Augusta.
