Lori Coward delivered Aiken County's first baby of 2002 at 1:27 PM at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Brendan Conner Coward weighed six pounds nine ounces and measured 19 inches. Lori, an Ohio native, watched USC beat Ohio State 31-28 on a TV in Room 24 with family taping the game. Lisa Kirkland, neonatal nurse at ARMC, assisted in delivery.
School leaders monitor a potential winter storm as districts plan for mid day dismissals and a possible start time for Thursday. Superintendent Dr. Linda Eldridge says decisions will be made by 5 30 a m if conditions worsen and districts stay in contact with sheriff patrol and emergency offices across the county. Local administrators checked conditions early and will reassess for Thursday as buses await weather updates.
