Yale Sales Boost Tax Collections
A surge in pre Christmas buying pushed state sales tax to a record 15.1 million dollars in November. State Tax Commission Chair Robert C. Wasson noted the rise from 10.2 million the prior year and said the month topped the old December 1968 record of 149 million overall. The 47.6 percent jump lifted six month collections to about 96 million, already over half of the 189.7 million projected for the 1969-70 year. Wasson praised the rise after the rate increase from 3 to 4 percent last June 1.
