Rene Josey, 40, Florence resident and longtime U.S. attorney in South Carolina, is stepping down this week after serving since 1996. Senator Strom Thurmond nominated his son Strom Jr for the post on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named by President Bush. Josey emphasized he will not discuss family questions and highlighted his prosecution focus, including involvement in the Colonial Pipeline oil spill case which resulted in a 7.5 million dollar penalty.
