Ground Zero nun finds a new mission after 9/11
Sister Cindy Catherine Mahoney helped evacuees at the Staten Island Ferry terminal and joined the Fatality Team at Ground Zero. After months of exposure to toxic air and grief, she left the convent, battled health issues, and now advocates for ongoing monitoring for rescue workers and a support network including a clearinghouse website and a foundation.
