North Augusta man charged in child sex case
Francisco Cruz Benitez, 53, was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor 11 to 14 and four counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct after an January investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies spoke with a 39-year-old North Augusta woman who said the suspect assaulted her 12-year-old and 10-year-old, with threats to harm the victims if they told anyone. Benitez was placed in the Aiken County detention center and remained in custody Wednesday.

In Charlotte, an employee at the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte is alleged to have stolen about 230000 over two years. Police filed a report Friday. the agency says the theft did not involve or affect its 60 divisional sites and that services remain insured and uninterrupted. No name or charges released yet.
