Wilson cites talking about trafficking as first step in solving issue

Wilson says open discussion exposes trafficking and helps kill it while linking the opioid crisis to state and national trends. He cites 580 in-state opioid deaths in 2016, an 18 percent rise from 2014, with Aiken County reporting 23. He notes South Carolina ranks ninth in opioid prescriptions and references Governor McMaster’s 2017 “silent hurricane” remark and a public health emergency. He mentions a lawsuit against the OxyContin maker as part of addressing the opioid problem.
