Gov. Beasley backs a change from the Caroli na wren plate with a Palmetto tree design. The new plate, chosen by the governor's office, will be available Oct 1, and the wren series has run out after six years.

Circuit Judge Henry Floyd ordered a settlement in Aiken County civil court ending claims between Nations Bank and the town of New Ellenton. Cantelou Jr was removed from liability, allowing about 70 000 in escrow and state revenues to be released. The ruling does not resolve potential Cedar Creek Properties litigation over the water line.
The Highland Park Country Club in Aiken begins a long term restoration begun last July under owner James McNair Jr. The plan covers clearing underbrush reshaping fairways and replacing greens and tees to USGA standards with hybrid grasses and Bermuda. An automated sprinkler system will support growth while six holes stay open for play during work.

Aiken County planners rejected Joel Randall’s major zoning change for District 6 4-1 after Rev. William Kent mocked the issue while urging moderation. Randall argued UD zones should switch to RUD to curb video poker, citing district 6 as a potential dumping ground for harmful businesses amid protests from homeowners over towers and trailer parks.
The Aiken spiritual community forms a support network for Dr. Fred Andrea and family after Rebecca Caroline Andrea dies at age one from asthma complications. Funeral set for Saturday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Peele officiating. Burial private. Rebecca was a church member and kindergarten student. She is survived by her parents and two sisters.
