South Carolina considers appointing Adjutant General instead of election
Speaker Bobby Harrell and Adjutant General Robert Livingston advocate removing the top military post from popular vote. The plan would amend the state constitution to have the governor appoint the Adjutant General for a four year term, with criteria including active National Guard status and graduation from senior military colleges. The change aims to reduce politics in military leadership while maintaining qualified officers.
