Man indicted on two counts of vehicle homicide
Jose Rojas 25 is indicted on two counts of first degree homicide by vehicle and one count of driving without a license for a 2015 crash into the Augusta canal that killed Beech Island resident John Jones Jr. 22. Three passengers escaped with minor injuries. bond set at 100000 with a curfew. restrictions include no contact with the victim and no travel outside Georgia or South Carolina.

Ex-cosmetology school boss ordered to pay over 9 million
Earnest "Jay" Lacy, president and CEO of Lacy School of Cosmetology, and the school faced a $9,283,123 default judgment in federal court. The case cited misappropriation of federal funds, unauthorized disbursements, and false compliance statements after the Aiken campus closed in 2014. The False Claims Act damages totaled about $6.5 million plus a nearly $3 million civil penalty.
