Giant U S Mexico telescope nears completion atop Sierra Negra
A landmark joint project between the United States and Mexico builds a 165 foot radio telescope on the 15,000 foot Sierra Negra volcano in Puebla. With a 120 million dollar price tag the facility aims to map early universe light from 13 billion years ago and study Andromeda and other galaxies. DARPA funds part of the project amid concerns over military ties though scientists say the telescope has no direct military use.
