Clinton Defends Rich Pardons Critics Sprint to Questions

Former President Bill Clinton defended his pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich in a New York Times op ed. He said charges should have been settled civilly rather than criminally and noted support from current and former Israeli officials and three Republican attorneys. He denied pardoning for contributions from Denise Rich, who donated over 1 million to Democrats and 450 thousand to Clinton’s library. GOP figures Specter and Burton called for further investigations while Manhattan US Attorney Mary Jo White opened a criminal probe into the pardon. Rich fled the US, renounced citizenship, and now lives in Switzerland.
