Opposition MPs accuse Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau of mouthing obscenities during a Thursday House of Commons debate as Conservatives jeered. Trudeau says he only moved lips and hands in a derisive gesture and denies the claim, calling Tuesday's similar accusation an absolute mistruth.
President and Mrs. Nixon honored head butler John Ficklin with a silver letter opener bearing a presidential seal as he began his 26th year on the White House staff. He remained on duty through the banquet and a state dinner for Italian Premier Emilio Colombo.
Actress Tuesday Weld 27 and writer Claude Harz 34 from London divorced after a 1965 marriage and two years separation. Superior Court ordered Harz to pay 100 dollars monthly child support for daughter Natasha, 4, with custody awarded to Weld.
Duke Power Co. in New York offered 4 million shares at 26.25 each, raising 105 million for construction. Proceeds will fund projects as an underwriting syndicate handled the sale. The company plans to issue up to 100 million in debt securities next month, mortgage bonds or unsecured debentures.
The Internal Revenue Service says Stokely Carmichael and Miriam Makeba owe 48 193 in income taxes for 1968 and 1969. The assessment, disclosed at Bronx registrar's office, notes the couple now reside in Conakry Guinea. Carmichael, once SNCC leader, is linked to the "Black Power" phrase. Makeba is a noted recording and concert artist.
Secretary of Agriculture Clifford M. Hardin told the Senate House Economic Committee that housewives should expect higher food prices this year. He noted the average family spends 16.7 percent of income on food, a claim he called globally unmatched. He contrasted farmers’ income at 78 percent of nonfarm earnings, with nearly half from off farm work.
The House Ways and Means Committee tentatively approves a 35 billion increase in the national debt limit, raising it to 430 billion. The panel plans to vote Monday to send the proposal to Congress amid anticipated House opposition to a separate plan allowing up to 10 billion in long term bonds without regard to a 44 percent rate.
A Soviet diplomat's car was set afire early today in Silver Spring Maryland and an attempt was made to ignite two other cars with diplomatic tags in Hyattsville Maryland police said No injuries were reported

Events include a Graniteville barbecue for Freeman and Truax at Leavelle McCampbell High, and a Leesville turkey dinner for Dooley. Freeman accuses McScott of unreformed procedures. Scott promotes a 12 point program and open meetings. Dooley runs a people to people style campaign.

North Vietnamese forces attacked a South Vietnamese artillery base inside Laos near the Ho Chi Minh trail, causing heavy casualties and thwarting U S helicopter resupply and search efforts for wounded and a missing crewman. High casualties reported but no dead count yet.
All Columbia public schools resumed operation after about 850 teachers quit for a single day. The strike closed 12 Richland County District One schools affecting more than 11 000 students. Teachers demanded higher salaries than the proposed 250 dollar annual increase. The SCEA urged sharing new tax revenue with teachers if passed by the legislature.
Sen Strom Thurmond, 68, defending Nixon revenue sharing, says it reverses federal power concentration and slams Democrats as extreme leftists. The National Safety Council reports 1970 had the lowest traffic death rate and fatalities since records began. Traffic deaths fell to 55,300, a 2 percent drop from 1969, with 5 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.
