The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta reports its insect display has surpassed 250,000 specimens. Begun in 1943, the collection aids scientists worldwide in identifying disease causing insects. Dr. Paul Rice notes most mounted specimens were donated by volunteers, with only ten purchased.
About 25 to 30 stray cats wandered into Kentucky State Reformatory and now live there for health reasons. Warden Harold Black says the cats must go, inmates may keep some as pets, and the Humane Society will take the rest. Most are too wild to catch.
