The Aiken County Sheriff's Office investigates a suspicious fire at a vacant Beech Island residence on Swamp Road reported around 3 4 a.m. Tuesday. Officers found the home engulfed in flames and fire crews remained on scene until about 5 30 a.m. The owner was not identified, and the cause remains under investigation.
Christopher Wayne Perkins Jr. 27 of Chalk Bed Road was charged with threatening a public official resisting arrest trespass after notice and damaging city property after he damaged a patrol car and shouted racial slurs during a disturbance at an Aldrich Street apartment. He was held at the Aiken County detention center as officers responded to a reported dispute involving a 23 year old woman and a 6 month old baby.

The Doris C. Gravatt Detention Center recorded multiple February 16 2015 bookings. Names include John Willis Garrett Floyd Anthony Burnett Jr Dowell Clinton Fulmer George Thomas Rowland Christopher Wayne Perkins Antwan James Smith Ernest Bo Buff IV Devin Mitcham Judy Marie Buff Sabrina Maria Valentine Marques Jones Forest Ward Smith Derrienta Luquincy Carter Rickey Dean Anderson Ulysses Wilson III Hanh Thi Doan. Charges range from malicious injury to property to driving under suspension and domestic violence. Some detainees may have posted bond and been released.
Reports from Aiken Public Safety cite juveniles throwing rocks at vehicles on York Street and a man shoplifting two pairs of shoes and a TV from a Morgan Street home. Items stolen include clothing from Rutland Drive laundromat and a cellphone left at a York Street gas station. An Aiken woman says a male household member assaulted her at home. A lawn mower and rim disappeared from Kellogg Street. A Warrenville burglary was reported on Augusta Road.
The Aiken Community Playhouse Youth Wing presents Auntie Mame at 8 p.m. February 27 28 and March 6 7 and 3 p.m. Sunday March 1 at the URS Center for the Performing Arts 126 Newberry Street. Tickets cost 20 dollars for adults 17 for seniors 60 and older 12 for students and 7 for children 12 and under.
Soprano Maureen Simpson and pianist Diane Mangiante will perform 19th century German songs at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at the Aiken County Historical Museum. Tickets cost 10 dollars and can be bought at Banksia or online at the Aiken Choral Society site.
