Du Pont reaffirmed commitment to Savannah River Plant operations

Aiken Mayor H Odell Weeks and Du Pont Chairman Ed Jefferson exchanged letters confirming Du Pont's continued operation at the Savannah River Plant. Jefferson said no changes are foreseen to the DOE contract, which extended for five years in 1984 and remains virtually unchanged with renewal unlikely before 1989.

Beech Island Plans Tricentennial Celebration Parade

Beech Island marks its tricentennial with a full day of events on Saturday April 26 including a parade speakers barbecue and music at Redcliffe Plantation State Park. A living history group will show early American crafts and a marker for the Savannah Town Fort Moore site will be dedicated.
