Capri Art Theater owner Art Watts says the last live burlesque show will be Thursday night. He blames the closing on competition from partnered adult films required by the theater chain that runs the Capri.
In Charlotte the city starts a 30 day experiment letting drunken offenders be released after about 10 hours once sober instead of 20 days in jail. Magistrates can try drunks around the clock and determine sobriety before trial. If guilty, release occurs regardless of paying fines and costs.
Sir Laurence Olivier will headline the British National Theatre production of Guys and Dolls at the Old Vic. The show opens November 24 after Olivier’s illness delayed the original plan, marking 21 years since the New York premiere.
Ronald Balch a 24 year old U S Army deserter from Huntsville Alabama is jailed in East Germany serving two years eight months after going AWOL in Bamberg Germany on March 21 1966 He was declared a deserter a month later and reportedly sentenced last August while attempting to flee to Poland Authorities say he is the sixth American jailed in East Germany and efforts for his release are ongoing.
Mayor Palmer Gaillard and State Rep. Julian LeaMond clashed at a Monday night Democratic barbecue rally in Charleston. Witnesses describe exchange of words and a brief scuffle before bystanders intervened. Gaillard runs in the Feb 23 First District primary for the congressional vacancy. LeaMond backs Mendel Davis.
The University of Georgia sponsors a forum on occult arts during the Occult Arts Festival in Athens Georgia. Speakers will discuss palm reading fortune telling and astrology. The festival ends Thursday.

Sean Connery says he and actress Diane Cilento have parted after eight years of marriage. Cilento left their Putney home to live in Wimbledon, and Connery offered no reason for the breakup.

A US Air Force colonel with 28 years of service who commanded an air lift squadron was found guilty of seven marijuana charges. He received three years in prison and a $15,000 fine from a general court-martial. Col. Gerald V. Kehrli was acquitted on one count.
