Cambodian Premier Lon Nol remains hospitalized in Honolulu after a stroke. Officials report his left side is partly paralyzed but vital signs are normal and he is alert, cooperative, and cheerful at Tripler Army Hospital. He arrived in Honolulu a week after the stroke aboard an Air Force plane.
Evangelist Billy Graham plans a 10 day recuperation at his Montreal North Carolina home after removal of a salivary gland blocked by two small stones. He was released from a Rochester Minnesota hospital and will stay for post operative care before returning to his North Carolina retreat. Graham previously underwent operations in Rochester in 1965 and 1967.
Irish laborer Dennis McLaughlin 36 teaches Marlon Brando elocution for The Nightcomber. Brando seeks a lush County Cavan brogue after years away from films, meeting in a London pub in the East End.
An aerial banner towed by a small plane over Lewisburg PA urged "Free Jimmy Hoffa" as James Hoffa jailed at Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary nears parole eligibility in March. Hoffa, who turned 58, is serving an eight year term for jury tampering.
Eight inmates described as extremely dangerous are at large after a Glynn County jail escape in Brunswick. The Saturday night breakout began when four prisoners overpowered a jailer and opened third floor cells inviting 38 inmates to flee. four joined, with eight identified as escapees: David Roberts Leroy Ellis Bruce Fleming John Gerad Willie Gray Donald Anderson Ernest Proctor and James Randolph.
At Houston's Space Center AP reports Stuart A Roosa is promoted to Air Force lieutenant colonel and Edgar D Mitchell to Navy captain as part of routine first spaceflight promotions. Roosa Mitchell and Apollo 14 colleague Alan B Shepard Jr. finished the first phase of their debriefing and planned to study over 1,000 mission photographs.
