The city will replace existing meters with a radio controlled system to save over 2 million dollars in 10 years. Five meter readers will be eliminated, saving about 285 thousand annually and boosting revenues by around 400 thousand yearly. Voting Officials Seek Federal Pre clearance for Polling Changes

Aiken County voting officials will seek pre clearance from the Justice Department to reloc ate renumber and rename about 14 polling places as part of a new county precinct map. The map covers 63 regular polling stations and must pass the legislature before submission for federal approval under the Voting Rights Act. New and revised precincts include Gem Lakes 60 Silver Bluff 61 Belvedere 62 Ascanga Lake 63 with changes to barrier free station 64 and absentee box 65.

Tougher Teen Stance Taken By Legislators

South Carolina lawmakers push get-tough bills after teen violence. Proposals include trying 16-year-olds as adults and moving 14 and 15-year-olds in violent cases to adult court with possible transfers back to family court.
