The Rev. Jesse Jackson and two state lawmakers push to require all 46 South Carolina counties to observe Martin Luther King Jr Day as a paid holiday. Eight counties, including Greenville, still do not. A House subcommittee approved a bill co sponsored by Rep. Fletcher Smith and Rep. Karl Allen to mandate the day off for county employees. Supreme Court Chief Justice Toal advised judges King Day will be among 12 state holidays observed. Jackson vows rallies and petition drives to build support, noting Greenville should lead by example.

SCETV disputes CPB audit findings over funds
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting reviews if SCETV must repay 775000 dollars after an audit of 2001 reports found overestimated in kind donations by 11 million.
