URS departure leaves Aiken arts groups in place at URS Center
URS Corp plans to leave its downtown site after being acquired by AECOM. The URS Center for the Performing Arts at 126 Newberry St. S.W. houses the Aiken Community Playhouse, Juilliard in Aiken, APAG, and independent shows. The city and other groups use the space for lectures, weddings, and events. The Playhouse operations are tied to a 100 year lease with the City, renewed every decade, with last renewal in 2012. Juilliard in Aiken began in 2009 and APAG has used the center since 2005. The theater is a joint venture of the Playhouse board and the City. The show lineups are expected to continue despite URS's move.
