Avalanche Hits Val d Isere Vacation Camp Killing 42
An Alpine avalanche driven by 60 mph winds swept through Val d Isere France destroying a hotel and vacation center dining room. An Army UH1 Huey crashed into a refugee shanty town near Da Nang killing all 12 Americans aboard. The helicopter en route from Chu Lai to Freedom Hill missed homes, sparing Vietnamese civilians. The crew included six Army, five Navy and one Marine. luggage suggested leave or home travel. Eleven died at scene, one died en route.
