The Mystery of Whiskey Road Names Its Legend
Local lore explains how Whiskey Road in Aiken earned its name with theories of wagons from Savannah or Charleston and whiskey moved by boat to Silver Bluff. Some claim family ties to the wagons, while others note the road appears on 1832 plats before Aiken’s 1835 charter. The name nearly changed to Cherokee Innocuous, but residents objected and restored Whiskey Road amid ongoing legend.
