The trial of alleged killer Reinaldo J. Rivera moved forward with a Monday pre trial hearing in which investigators and witnesses, including 33 women who had contact with Rivera, testified. Rivera, a North Augusta resident and former Bridgestone Firestone employee, is suspected in four killings in Georgia and South Carolina.
Attorney General Charlie Condon and Secretary of State Jim Miles announce plans to run for the Republican nomination for governor citing expected support from Lowcountry voters. Condon will not seek a third term as attorney general and will back Hodges in 2002 while Miles predicts victory and pledges mutual support if either is the nominee.
