Aiken County sheriff's deputy Paul W. Hoehn of North Augusta faces two counts of voluntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault in a fatal Broad Street shooting in Augusta. The victims Lewis Wayne Walker and Steve Walker, both linked to a 1976 High Point murder, were 33 and 28. George Ronald Stone, 24, was wounded. Authorities say Stone and the Walkers attacked Hoehn and two friends with hunting knives around 3 a.m.
The South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners suspended Dr Allan G Thurmond of North Augusta for three months over his federal Medicaid fraud conviction. The 70 year old obstetrician gynecologist receives two years probation after the suspension ends April 30. Thurmond is the first SC physician convicted of Medicaid fraud. office assistant Neil C Shaffer was also convicted on multiple counts.
