The MPLA denied reports it planned to nationalize Gulf Oil operations in Cabinda and rejected claims of seeking compensation. A British correspondent was expelled from Luanda after reporting the alleged $2 billion royalty demand as Gulf Oil withdrew staff amid U S pressure.
An armed gang hijacked a school bus in Djibouti Afars and Issas territory taking 21 children of French military families and the driver hostage. The group demanded independence for the strategic region and tried to drive toward Somalia before stopping between border posts near Djibouti city.
Washington AP President Ford’s new political counselor Roger B Morton takes a $44 600 annual post as adviser.
