DHEC says 84 South Carolina residents have died from flu this season and about 60,000 have been diagnosed since October. Last week 38 more deaths were attributed to the outbreak, with roughly 600 hospitalizations reported between January 21 and 27. No pediatric deaths reported.
The Aiken Branch AAUW collects donations for the Books n Things Fair at 900 Trail Ridge Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Items needed include books clothing electronics CDs vinyl records art and more. The fair runs March 2 3 with teachers given free books after 3 p.m. on March 3. Proceeds fund women scholarships and education groups.
Jarvis Boyd, 22, of Todd Avenue, pleaded no contest to indecent exposure and second degree assault in a March 2017 incident. A judge gave a youthful offender sentence up to three years, suspended to two years of probation, with a possible sex offender counseling evaluation.
