Pit production shift eyed as SC groups back SRS site
Leaked NNSA analysis favors moving plutonium pit production to the Savannah River Site with 80 pits per year by 2030. SC entities including Aiken, North Augusta, Aiken County and SCGNAC back the plan, citing jobs and national security. MOX facility repurposing and costs loom large. Germany material and Atoms for Peace reuse feature in the debate.
