Solicitor Robert J. Harte expects a brief inquiry into alleged improper activities at the Aiken County Detention Center. He plans to bring in a State Law Enforcement Division agent. internal county work has been completed and one employee resigned while another was terminated. Names not released.
Joe B. Babb of Aiken donates $1,000 in honor of his wife and children to replace the boy and girl statues atop the city fountain. Aiken Medical Center dedication runs 2 to 5 p.m. at 210 University Parkway with Mayor Weeks and others attending.
The Agricultural Conservation Program offers cost-sharing to landowners for tree planting pasture establishment and reduced tillage or no-till farming. Signup runs February 3 through 14 per Gibson Solomons Aiken County ASCS director. Contact the ASCS office at 649-4591 for details.
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Masonic Lodge on Old Whiskey Road in New Ellenton from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Red Cross notes sterile needles are single use and disposal follows donation. Donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, have no hepatitis or malignancy, and wait eight weeks between donations.
