Construction To Begin On Reactor L at Savannah River Plant

The Savannah River Plant will receive 42 million dollars from the federal government next year to renovate the L-reactor which has been idle since 1968. The project, approved by President Carter, will create 400 new jobs in 1981 and 700 more in 1982, with completion expected by 1983. Reactor L will become one of four operating reactors producing weapons grade plutonium and tritium for nuclear weapons.

Escapee Bowick Held on $80,000 Bond After Aiken Jeep Chase

William P Bowick 22 known as Billy Bowick is jailed on an $80,000 bond in the Aiken County Jail after a high speed pursuit ending in a wooded area near Outing Club Road. He faces charges of assault with intent to kill a police officer and armed robbery. A Jefferson Parish Louisiana facility had him serving seven years for armed robbery.

Special Term of Court Opens in Aiken County

Aiken County General Sessions Court begins a special term Monday under Judge James E. Moore. Second Circuit Solicitor Sylvia W. Westerdahl plans to try Woody Dean Alexander this week and an obscenity case next week if pretrial motions are ruled on. The session adds two weeks in January and marks the transition from Westerdahl to Robert J. Harte as solicitor starting Jan. 12 after Harte defeated Westerdahl earlier this year.

SRP Clemson project aims to boost ethanol fuel

A Clemson Du Pont and DOE plan proposes a Savannah River Plant pilot ethanol facility to produce up to 1 million gallons annually.
