The Aiken County Auditor Martha W. Redd will mail 1976 homestead exemption forms to those who filed in 1975. Applications must be signed and returned by April 30. New eligibles must be 65, resident for one year, own and occupy the home, and be blind or totally disabled, with proof of age or disability, birth date, and Social Security number. A 1975 law change allows mobile homes on leased property to qualify for exemption with the same procedures as real property, but not for both real and personal taxes in the same year.
