Excise Tax On Telephones To Be Reduced
Federal excise tax on telephone bills will drop by one percent on January 1 as part of the 1970 adjustment act. Southern Bell manager H J Gladden Jr in Aiken notes this is the second annual reduction, with further cuts each year until repeal in 1982. The lower rate applies to bills on or after January 1, 1974, for local and long distance service unless calls were billed before November 1, 1973.
