Thank You From the Richardson Family for Scotty’s Death
The Richardson family expresses heartfelt thanks for community support after Scotty Richardson, an Officer with the Aiken Department of Public Safety, passed away December 21. They thank ADPS staff, O Charleys, Houndslake CC, Shellhouse-Rivers, and local citizens for meals, gifts, and help during funeral arrangements and Christmas. They ask continued prayers and urge guiding local children toward the right path in Scotty’s memory.

Public Safety officer shot and killed in 2011 tribute
In December 2011 Aiken Public Safety faced a deadly incident when Sheriff Scotty Richardson, Travis Griffin, and Sgt. Tracy Seymour confronted a suspect on Brandt Court. Griffin survived after a chest wound, Richardson died en route to hospital, and Stephen Carter was wounded and jailed. Local residents donated and paid respects.

Bridgestone to expand facility and build new tire plant
Bridgestone announced a 740,000 square foot expansion and a 1.5 million square foot off road tire plant in Graniteville. The $1.7 billion investment is the state's largest. Groundbreaking for the expansion occurred in September, with the first tire due in Q2 2013. Groundbreaking for the new plant followed in October, with operations slated for H1 2014.

County Council Approves New Complex on Greenfield Site
The County Council voted to build a new administrative complex on a greenfield site instead of remaining on Richland Avenue. The panel bought land on University Parkway and selected an envelope design, while purchasing a Beaufort Street building for the Health Department. Groundbreaking is slated for Q1 2012.
