Police blotter details two local thefts and a burglary
Aiken police report a 39 year old man arrested for shoplifting for the seventh time on Dec 29 at Winn Dixie on York Street. A burglary at Star Chemicals on Pendleton Street NW occurred Dec 22 with a part time employee allegedly entering through a back wall. a duffel bag with tools and checks was later found on Abbeville Avenue. An Eckerd’s employee’s locker was broken into on Pine Log Road, an attacker took $75 from a purse and the car keys, then stole the car. the purse was found in the men’s restroom trash. Aiken plan offers cash to spur annexation
A plan in Aiken to offer cash payments equal to yearly city taxes aims to lure property owners into annexation. North Augusta to Dedicate Monument for Longstreet
The Sons of Confederate Veterans will unveil an eight foot granite memorial at Longstreet birthplace near North Augusta on Saturday January 10. The Civil War general born January 8 1821 near Edgefield Aiken counties later served as a corps commander under Lee and died in 1904. His widow attended the first marker dedication in the early 1950s.
