Domestic textile firms vow to block cross border venture
TACOMA Washington based textile manufacturers joined by the American Textile Manufacturers Institute say they will do all they can to block a proposed joint venture between the Chinese Tianjin development zone and the Puyallup tribe to make clothing in a free trade zone. They label the plan a blatant effort by China to evade its textile agreement with the United States. The domestic industry notes China is the strongest foreign competitor and already controls about 50 percent of the U.S. market, while China supplies roughly 6 percent of American textiles.
