Eclipse Gives '82 A Skyshow
Thousands of skywatchers rose early to see the Earth’s shadow cross the moon. Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles hosted a capacity audience with 600 seats filled and 200 to 300 additional people in the building. The total lunar eclipse began about 4 50 a m EST with totality at 5 58 a m and partial reappearance at 6 29 a m. Next U S total lunar eclipse is slated for August 16, 1989. California will see a lunar eclipse on April 24, 1986. The prior total lunar eclipse occurred in July.
