Melanie Bortmas opens Ridgecrest Coffee Bar at 2502 Wagener Road aimed at horse folks and daily commuters. The cafe offers coffee, panini, salads, muffins and cheesecake with drive through and free Wi Fi for staff from AGY Owens Corning Hubbell and Zeus and others in town.
Ridgecrest Coffee Bar at 2502 Wagener Road operates seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop offers a medium roast produced by meat’s coffee roaster, described as smooth and palatable. For information call 803-641-9000. Ben Baugh covers equine industry for the Aiken Standard since 2004.
The Aiken County Government Center is about 72 days from move in with final painting and flooring underway. County Administrator Clay Killian says the $37.5 million, 134000 square foot facility remains on budget and on schedule as departments including Voter Registration, Planning and Development and Public Works prepare to relocate. Road work in front of the building will add deceleration and turn lanes at a cost up to $509000 funded by Capital Project Sales Tax funds, with opening planned in March and move-in beginning in three weeks.
The county government center will house a time capsule not to be opened until its 200th anniversary on March 10, 2071. It will include maps, photos and items from departments moving into the building and be sealed under the main staircase with a plaque. Minor paving and drainage work will occur on Lincoln Avenue behind the new building. Amy Banton is the county reporter for the Aiken Standard.
