Leftovers Holiday Cheer Fades as Bills Await
Christmas weekend left many facing post holiday bills while searching for bargains in the waning days of 1976. Pope Paul VI delivered a Christmas Mass to about one billion viewers as events abroad included a holiday truce note from IRA sources and a deadly incident in Lebanon. President Ford spent Christmas on the slopes at Vail and Amy Carter helped keep the Plains household busy with gifts. About 400 people died in traffic accidents over the three day holiday period according to the National Safety Council.
