Eight Die In South Carolina Holiday Road Crash

South Carolina highways claimed at least eight lives over the holiday period per the state Highway Patrol. A head-on collision four miles north of Gaffney killed three and hospitalized two others. Shelby North Carolina residents Johnnie Poston, 51, and Teresa Poston Thompson, 27, died when Thompson crossed into the southbound lane and struck a pickup. Yates Poston, Thompson's father, was hospitalized at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Thompson’s 4-year-old son was uninjured. A pickup passenger, 83-year-old Rada Humphries of Blacksburg, died after hospitalization. The truck driver was Humphries’ daughter.

Holiday fire devastates three story Kalmia Hill home

On Christmas Eve a three story Laurel Drive house owned by Sam and Sylvia Kelly burned rapidly starting at sunset. Firefighters fought the blaze but the structure was lost though no one was hurt. Kelly recalled the loss of irreplaceable items and noted his family escaped unharmed. Fire crews described a brick and wood building consumed by flames.
